Dimension in the Shadows
Dimension in the Shadows is a desk calendar made from black paperboard cut by laser. The set contains twelve monthly cards, each with a different design. Every card is mounted in a slit of a small wooden cube. Dates for Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays are cut through, while weekdays are half cut. Each abstract figure recalls a scene of the changing seasons in Japan. Seen against the light, the sharp outline reads as a paper sculpture. The cast shadow changes shape as the light moves, adding quiet interest to daily life.
Dimension in the Shadows Calendar by Emi Kawasaki has been identified as a grand representation of communication design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Dimension in the Shadows Calendar received the Platinum A' Design Award in Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design in 2021. The A' Graphics, Illustration and Visual Communication Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design recognition program which rewards superior design of logos, posters, infographics, brochures, packaging designs, business cards, book covers, billboards and more.
